Big Island Energy Company has serviced Hawaii Island with fuel and lubricant solutions since 1982, originally as a member of the Akana Petroleum organization, and since 2009 as member of the Maui Oil family of companies.
Today, Big Island Energy Company is part of the largest, local family-owned petroleum marketer in Hawaii. Our main office is located in Hilo, Hawaii, and our family of companies also include Maui Oil Company, Lanai Oil Company, and GP Energy Company.
Maui Oil Company was first launched by Alex McBarnet Senior in 1982, growing to become the largest Maui-owned distributor of fuel and lubricants on the Valley Isle. The company extended service to Lanai in 1986 as Lanai Oil Company, to Hawaii Island in 2009 as Big Island Energy Company, to Kauai and Molokai in 2013, and to Oahu in 2018 as GP Energy Company.
We also operate Maui Express Car Wash in Kahului, Maui.
